ABOUT THE SIZE 1 MASONRY PROP
The Size 1 masonry prop is an adjustable steel support used in temporary works during construction, refurbishment and structural alterations.
Its telescopic design provides a working-height range of approximately 1.75 to 3.12 metres. A pin provides the initial height setting, while the threaded collar allows finer adjustment and controlled engagement with the supported structure.
The prop can be used directly beneath a suitable load-distribution member or combined with compatible attachments such as Strongboys and masonry fork U-heads.
Every support arrangement must be properly assessed, with the props installed vertically on firm, load-bearing surfaces and braced where required.
FAQs
What height does a Size 1 prop cover?
It adjusts from approximately 1.75 metres when closed to 3.12 metres when fully extended.
How much weight can the prop support?
Its safe working load is not one fixed figure. Capacity reduces as the prop is extended and also depends on its alignment, loading, attachments and bracing. The applicable load table and temporary-works design must be followed.
Can it support a load-bearing wall?
It can form part of a temporary support system for load-bearing work, but it must not be used alone without a suitable support head, beam or other specified arrangement. Structural or temporary-works advice should be obtained.
Is a Strongboy included?
No. The masonry prop is supplied separately. Strongboys, U-heads, sole boards and other supporting equipment can be added to your hire.
Can it be used at an angle?
No. A standard masonry prop is intended for vertical, concentric loading. It must not be installed at an angle or used as a push-pull prop.
Does it need to stand on a sole board?
A suitable sole board will normally be required to spread the load and provide a firm, level base. The appropriate size depends on the supporting surface and calculated load.
NEED HELP CHOOSING?
Our team is here to help you find the right machine for your project.
Can I extend it beyond 3.12 metres?
No. The prop must never be extended beyond its stated working range. A larger prop should be selected if additional height is required.
Do the props need to be braced?
They may require lacing or bracing to maintain alignment and prevent sideways movement. This must be determined by the temporary-works design and site conditions.
How many props will I need?
This depends on the structure, imposed load, span, prop spacing and support method. A competent person or structural engineer should calculate the required quantity and positioning.
Can you design the temporary support system?
Build Compound supplies the hire equipment but does not provide structural or temporary-works design. A competent person or qualified engineer should specify the arrangement where required.
Can you deliver the props to site?
Yes. Build Compound provides local delivery across Yorkshire, subject to location and availability.
What should I do if a prop is bent or damaged?
Do not use it. Isolate the prop and contact Build Compound immediately. Hired props must not be straightened, welded, modified or repaired by the hirer.
