ABOUT THE 3.3kVA TRANSFORMER
The 3.3kVA portable transformer provides a practical source of centre-tapped 110V power from a standard 230–240V socket.
It is designed primarily for intermittent use with compatible power tools such as breakers, drills, grinders and saws. Its two 16A outlets also allow suitable lower-powered equipment to be connected, provided the transformer’s combined capacity is not exceeded.
The heavy-duty GRP enclosure, carrying handle and 17 kg weight make it convenient to transport between work areas. Integrated thermal overload protection helps protect the transformer if excessive load or heat is detected.
FAQs
What does the transformer do?
It converts a standard 230–240V mains supply into centre-tapped 110V power for compatible construction tools and site equipment.
Does it plug into a normal socket?
Yes. The transformer uses a standard 13A mains plug, which must be connected to a suitable earthed and protected 230–240V socket.
What does 3.3kVA mean?
It is the transformer’s intermittent power-tool rating. It does not mean that 3.3kW can be drawn continuously.
What is its continuous rating?
The typical continuous rating is approximately 1.65kVA. Equipment intended to operate continuously must remain within this lower rating.
Can I run two tools simultaneously?
Potentially, provided their combined starting and running requirements do not exceed the transformer’s applicable rating. High-powered tools may need to be used individually.
Can it power the Dri-Eaz BD1000?
Yes. The BD1000’s stated input is within the transformer’s continuous capacity, provided no other equipment causes the combined load to be exceeded.
NEED HELP CHOOSING?
Our team is here to help you find the right machine for your project.
Does it have a 32A outlet?
No. This model normally provides two 16A 110V outlets. Equipment fitted with a 32A plug requires a transformer with a compatible 32A outlet.
Can it be used outdoors?
The IP44 enclosure provides protection against splashing water, but the transformer must not be submerged, placed in standing water or left exposed to severe weather.
Can I connect it to an extension lead?
Where possible, connect the transformer directly to the mains supply and use a suitable 110V extension lead on the output side. Any extension lead must have the correct plug, rating and conductor size.
Why has the transformer switched itself off?
Its thermal protection may have operated because of an excessive load or overheating. Disconnect the equipment, allow the transformer to cool and contact Build Compound if the issue continues.
Can you deliver the complete power package?
Yes. Build Compound provides local delivery across Yorkshire, subject to location and availability.
What should I do if the cable or casing is damaged?
Do not connect or use the transformer. Isolate it and contact Build Compound immediately. Hired electrical equipment must not be opened, modified or repaired by the hirer.
