ABOUT THE 3.9M SCAFFOLD BOARD
The 3.9-metre end-banded timber scaffold board is a full-length working-platform component designed for professional construction and maintenance applications.
Manufactured from graded timber to BS 2482 requirements, the board features galvanised metal bands at each end to help reduce splitting and protect vulnerable end grain during normal site use.
Its 3.9-metre length makes it suitable for creating longer scaffold runs and supported working platforms for bricklaying, plastering, decorating and building maintenance.
Scaffold boards must always be correctly supported and used as part of a suitable, properly assembled access system.
FAQs
What are the board’s dimensions?
Each board is approximately 3.9 metres long, 225 mm wide and 38 mm thick.
How much does one board weigh?
Each board weighs approximately 20 kg. Actual weight may vary depending on moisture content.
What do the metal end bands do?
The galvanised metal bands help protect the ends of the board and reduce the risk of splitting during handling and normal site use.
How often must the board be supported?
The board must be supported at maximum centres of 1.2 metres. Closer support may be required by the platform design, board grading or site conditions.
Can it be used with builder’s trestles?
Yes, provided the trestles are suitable, correctly spaced and incorporated into a properly designed working platform with any required edge protection and safe access.
Can I use one board as a standalone walkway?
No. A single unsecured board does not provide a suitable working platform. The number of boards, supports, guardrails and access arrangements must be established through an appropriate risk assessment.
NEED HELP CHOOSING?
Our team is here to help you find the right machine for your project.
Can it be used as a loading ramp?
No. A scaffold board must not be used as an improvised vehicle ramp, plant ramp or unsupported bridge.
Can it be used to cross an open trench?
Not as an improvised crossing. Trench access requires a properly designed bridge or platform with adequate support and edge protection.
Can scaffold boards be cut or drilled?
No. Hired boards must not be cut, drilled, painted or otherwise modified. Alterations can reduce their strength and make them unsuitable for future scaffold use.
How should the boards be transported?
A 3.9-metre board requires a suitably sized vehicle. It must be properly supported and securely restrained, with any overhang managed in accordance with applicable road-transport requirements.
Can you deliver the boards to site?
Yes. Build Compound provides local delivery across Yorkshire, subject to location and availability. Please tell us how many boards and supporting items you require.
What should I do if a board becomes damaged?
Remove it from use immediately and contact Build Compound. Do not use a board that is split, excessively worn, contaminated, burnt or otherwise damaged.
