ABOUT THE 1.8M SCAFFOLD BOARD
The 1.8-metre timber scaffold board is a compact working-platform component suitable for scaffolding systems and appropriately designed builder’s trestle arrangements.
Manufactured from graded timber to BS 2482 requirements, the board features galvanised metal bands at each end to help prevent splitting during normal site use.
Its shorter length makes it easier to handle and transport while providing a practical platform for bricklaying, plastering, decorating and general property maintenance.
Scaffold boards must always be correctly supported and used as part of a suitable, properly assembled access system.
FAQs
What are the board’s dimensions?
Each board is approximately 1.8 metres long, 225 mm wide and 38 mm thick.
How much does one board weigh?
Each board weighs approximately 9.2 kg. Actual weight may vary slightly depending on its moisture content.
How often must the board be supported?
The board must be supported at maximum centres of 1.2 metres. Closer supports may be required by the platform design or site conditions.
Can it be used with builder’s trestles?
Yes, provided the trestles are suitable, correctly positioned and incorporated into a properly designed working platform with any required edge protection and safe access.
Can I use one board as a standalone walkway?
No. A single unsecured board does not provide an adequate working platform. The number of boards, supports, guardrails and access arrangements must be established through a suitable risk assessment.
Can it be used as a ramp?
No. A scaffold board should not be used as an improvised loading ramp, vehicle ramp or unsupported bridge.
NEED HELP CHOOSING?
Our team is here to help you find the right machine for your project.
Can I use it over an open trench?
Not as an improvised crossing. Trench access requires a properly designed platform or bridge with suitable support and edge protection.
Can scaffold boards be cut or drilled?
No. Hired boards must not be cut, drilled, painted or otherwise modified, as this could reduce their strength and make them unsuitable for future use.
Can you deliver the boards to site?
Yes. Build Compound provides local delivery across Yorkshire, subject to location and availability. Please tell us how many boards and supporting items you require.
Can I collect them myself?
Yes, provided your vehicle has sufficient load space and the boards can be properly supported and secured. Any overhang must comply with applicable road-transport requirements.
What should I do if a board becomes damaged?
Remove it from use immediately and contact Build Compound. Do not use boards that are split, excessively worn, contaminated or otherwise damaged.
